The Contra Costa Labyrinth Project includes two gardens: the Art Whipp Community Garden, and a proposed Healing and Meditation Garden.

The Community Garden is coming into it's sixth year. Garden plots rent for $45 per year. We have 35 plots. Dewey Dobson and Sheila Driscoll have done a great job of managing the Community Garden since it opened. To contact Dewey and Sheila regarding rental of a plot call (925) 933-0888 and leave a message in the labyrinth mail box.

The Community Garden is absolutely beautiful in the spring time. The flowers are in full bloom and the colors are just unbelievable. Each garden plot is very unique. You'll see vegetables, different types of flowers, fruit trees, shrubs, statues, a bird bath or two, benches, and more. On any given Sunday you will find people walking the path between the plots or just relaxing on one of the benches.

The idea for a Healing and Meditation Garden was a natural second step for the labyrinth committee after the Labyrinth was finished.

"When the Labyrinth was completed we looked around and saw dirt. Now, there is nothing wrong with dirt, many plants need it, kids and dogs need it. But, we are a society that just can't leave plain dirt alone. So, the labyrinth committee decided to plant a few flowering plants around the Labyrinth to add color and cover some of the dirt. Plants die without water, at least ours did. We then decided to get serious. The idea for a Healing and Meditation Garden surrounding the Labyrinth was born."

The Garden is currently under construction. The first step was to install a well for irrigation. The water from the well will also be used for the Community Garden. The next step was to develop a layout for the proposed garden. The picture to the right shows a birdseye view of the proposed pathways and plants surrounding the Labyrinth. The labyrinth committee and other volunteers will do the planting of the Garden. When the Garden is completed it will provide a very beautiful and serene environment. There will be outdoor picnic, meeting and conference areas, for individuals and organizations that wish to use this important healing resource for workshops and retreats. Like the Labyrinth, the Garden will be wheelchair accessible.
